Replicate the shape by tracing it or drawing it. Use graph paper to help you to draw to scale if the shape is extremely largeFor instance, if you need to make a drawing that is one-tenth of the shape's original size, then divide the measurements by 10 and draw to that scale.
Use a ruler to divide the shape into as many squares, rectangles or triangles (circles must be done separately) as necessary to include the entire shape.
Determine the area of rectangles and squares by multiplying the length times the width of the shape.
Calculate triangles' areas by multiplying the base times the height. Then divide by 2.
Determine the area for circles by first squaring the radius. The radius is half of the width, or "diameter," of the circle. Squaring means to multiply a value by itself. Next, multiply your answer times "pi," which is equal to 3.14.
Add the areas for each separate shape in order to find the area for the entire uneven space.
