Good Topics of Persuasive Essays

A persuasive essay aims to convince the reader that your viewpoint is correct. You need to establish credibility and trustworthiness about the chosen topic. Keep in mind, a persuasive essay challenges the beliefs of your reader, so write authoritatively and convincingly. Whatever topic you choose, it must hold importance to you and ignite a passion within you. Otherwise, you will not have the power to persuade.
  1. Politics

    • Most people take a strong stand about their political favor. Write a persuasive essay to explain to the reader why he should choose the same political party as you. For example, if you are a Republican, write your essay with the hopes of persuading a Democrat to join your side. Alternatively, you could choose a political issue (e.g., abortion, gay marriage, etc.) and persuade the reader to choose your stance on the issue.

    Products

    • Every commercial tries to persuade its audience. Choose one of your favorite products and explain why it ranks as the best. By the end of your essay the reader should want to purchase the product or service you explain. On the opposite side of the spectrum, write your essay trying to persuade the reader why not to buy a product. Include personal bad experiences and expose its faults throughout the course of your essay.

    Society

    • Communities always have a need for improvement. Some cities have a high population of homelessness. These people do not have the same opportunities as those with a home. For example, finding a job becomes harder without a home. Write a persuasive essay to either support the aid of homelessness, or give reason for your lack of support. Religion also holds importance within society. Choose an essay topic, such as the support of creationism or the support of evolution, and persuade your readers to join your viewpoint.

    School

    • When writing a persuasive essay for school, consider using it as your topic. Find ways you can improve the school and write your essay around those improvements. If you think the students would benefit from longer breaks between classes, expound on the positive effect that would have on the school. Likewise, you could write a persuasive essay in an attempt to convince the school to allow students to bring cell phones into the school.
