Gifted students and children generally tend to possess higher levels of intellect. Characteristics include a raised sense of curiosity, heightened levels of comprehension and an ability to blend together diverse ideas and solutions. Many gifted students and children also have an ability to rapidly process information, and therefore typically learn at a much faster pace. They generally pursue specific interests with more enthusiasm, have strong memorization skills and are more apt to retain basic knowledge.
Gifted students and children exhibit a heightened sense of creativity. They typically generate a greater amount of original concepts and ideas, possess a more adventurous nature and tend to be independent thinkers. Gifted students and children also show characteristics of being better able to express themselves artistically, and are well-known for their ability to express their ideas and theories in a fluent and concise manner.
Enhanced leadership skills are another key component among the characteristics of gifted students and children. They often feel comfortable in accepting a role of leadership and responsibility. They tend to form exceptional judgment during a decision-making process; structure and routine appeal to them. Additionally, they have high expectations of others and demand the same of themselves. Gifted students and children are typically very self-confident.
Not all gifted students and children possess abilities to accurately process various emotions. Largely sensitive to social and emotional content, gifted children may at times overreact to emotional situations, while at other times, appear unmoved. They tend to be very tough on themselves, and due to their high levels of achievement, are also usually well-liked. Additional characteristics include advanced moral judgment and a strong sense of motivation while pursuing personal aspirations.
