Science Exhibition Ideas

Science exhibitions, or science fairs as they are commonly known, provide students a platform to share information and accomplishments with their peers and parents. Students and teachers can implement some new ideas into a science fair exhibitions to keep the event fresh, informative and entertaining for students and visitors alike.
  1. Demonstrations

    • A student can perform demonstrations during a science fair to show guests what he has learned and to teach them a little about science. A demonstration is also a way to provide some interaction and interest, which breaks-up the monotony of similar exhibits. An example of a demonstration is showing the audience how a model volcano erupts. Another demonstration that can be performed is to show people that human faces are not quite symmetrical. Have a series of photographs and a small mirror. Hold the mirror so the reflective side runs through the nose of the photo. Half of the face will reflect against the mirror and will look different than the face looks without the mirror showing that the face is not symmetrical.

    Props

    • Use props to bring interest to a science fair exhibit. Consider displaying the tools and materials used to perform the experiment. Allow science fair visitors to touch, hold, smell, feel and even taste some of the materials that were used in the highlighted science experiment. Guests will appreciate the mutli-sensory experience and will be more likely to comprehend and remember the experiment if they are able to use their own senses to explore the project.

    Multi-Media Demonstrations

    • A science student can provide a multi-media experience for guests. Use a laptop computer to provide a slide show of pictures of an experiment being done or of supplemental information. Other multi-media ideas include an audio recording that guests can listen to with ear phones or a interactive website that can be displayed at a science fair along with other display elements.

    Other Science Exhibition Ideas

    • Consider wearing a costume that goes along with the experiment displayed at a science fair exhibit. For instance, a student can dress in a Hawaiian shirt when displaying a model volcano. Other science exhibition ideas include decorating a display with a theme such as an outer space theme for a gravity related experiment.
