What Does DM Mean in Measurements?

DM is the abbreviation for decimeter. It is a linear metric measurement. The metric system is a measurement system based on units of tens. The prefix of the word indicates how many units the measurement represents. For example, "deci" equals one-tenth, "deca" equals 10, "centi" equals 100 and "milli" equals 1,000. The metric system is most commonly used in measurements in most parts of the world other than the United States.
  1. Conversions

    • A decimeter is 1/10 of a centimeter. A decimeter is equal to 100 mm and 10 cm. In comparison to standard measurement, a decimeter is approximately 3 inches.

    Formulas

    • The following formulas can be used to convert a decimeter into other common forms of measurement. Millimeter; mm=100 x dm. Centimeter; cm=10 x dm. Meter; m = dm / 10.

    Relative to a Meter.

    • The linear measurements of the metric system are based on a meter. 10 decimeters equals one meter. 100 centimeters equals one meter. 1,000 millimeters equals one meter.

    International System of Units

    • The metric system is also known as the International System of Units (SI.) Linear measurements are based on meters. Mass is based on kilograms. Time is based on seconds. Temperature is based on kelvin.
