How to Find the Square Root of Numbers With Decimals

Finding the square root of a number used to be a complicated procedure requiring the use of a long-division algorithm with multiple steps and some guess work. With calculators today, you just need to enter the number and press one button to make the conversion. This applies to numbers with decimals after them as well as whole numbers.

Instructions

    • 1

      Enter the decimal number of which you wish to find the square root in the calculator.

      Press the square root button on the calculator. This is either marked with a tick with a flat line coming out of the top end or by the letters "Sqrt." The square root of the number will be displayed.

      Press the "=" button to display the square root of the decimal number if it is not already displayed.

    • 4

      Press the "squared" button to return the number to its original form. This is the button marked with "X" with a smaller "2" in the top right-hand side.
