How to Make a Proper Noun Show Possession

Using correct grammar and punctuation is critical if you have to write a report or other important document. A noun is a part of speech that refers to a person, place or thing. A proper noun is the specific name of a person, place or thing (such as "Susan" or "Oklahoma"). If something belongs to a proper noun, you must use the correct possessive form of this noun.

Instructions

    • 1

      Write the proper noun.

    • 2

Add an apostrophe at the end of the name.

    • 3

Add an "s" after the apostrophe. For example, "Tom" becomes "Tom's."

    • 4

Omit the "s" after the apostrophe if the word ends in the letter "s." For example; write "Charles'."
