Bring out equipment that is typically reserved for field day for fifth-graders to enjoy during recess. Potato sacks, spoons and plastic eggs, and jump ropes can build competition. Each child can put both legs into a potato sack, or two children can each place one leg into one potato sack. Blow a whistle to begin the race. Alternatively, each child gets a spoon and a plastic egg. Children must reach the finish line first without dropping the egg. Children who drop the egg are disqualified. Lastly, children can have a jump rope race.
One child hides and multiple children search for him in this version of Hide and Seek. Children count to 20 and scatter to find the missing child. Searchers who locate the missing child hide with that person. This process continues until only one searcher is left. Children or educators can set a timer to see how long it takes for the last person to find everybody.
Children can set the course for this game. Maybe participants must run the length of the schoolyard fence before going down the slide, climbing one entrance of the jungle gym and exiting down a particular slide to complete the obstacle course. One or more children can watch participants to ensure that they follow the rules. The first pupil to finish the obstacle course while following all the rules wins.
Educators should ensure that all pupils are dressed appropriately for playing in the snow before beginning this game. One pupil who will not participate in the game ties a white handkerchief to a metal spoon or another heavy object. The spoon gets buried in the snow; only the handkerchief is left above the snow. Pupils divide into two teams. The first team to find the handkerchief wins. Alternatively, pupils can work together to build a snowman during recess. Find a stick or another object for the snowman's nose. Each participant closes his eyes and tries to put the nose in the right spot on the snowman's face. The first player to put the nose where it belongs wins.
