Do colleges look at semester grades or 9 week in high school?

Colleges look at your overall GPA, which is calculated using your final grades for the entire academic year (or sometimes the entire high school career). They don't usually receive individual semester or 9-week grades. Your high school will send a transcript showing your final grade for each course, which is usually an average of the grades from all grading periods within that course.
