Why were Manteo and Wanchese taught English?

There is no historical evidence indicating that Manteo and Wanchese were taught English. Manteo and Wanchese were members of the Croatan tribe and were the first Native Americans brought back from the New World by Sir Walter Raleigh to England in 1584.
