What punctuation is used to show the exact words a person said?

The punctuation used to show the exact words a person said is quotation marks.

There are two types of quotation marks:

* Double quotation marks (" "): Used for direct quotes in most English-speaking countries.

* Single quotation marks (' '): Used for direct quotes in some English-speaking countries (mainly the UK and Australia) and are also used within double quotes for quotations within quotations.

Here's an example:

"I'm going to the store," said Sarah. "Do you need anything?"

This shows that the exact words spoken by Sarah are "I'm going to the store" and "Do you need anything?".
