What might you find in a preamble?

* Purpose of the document: The preamble typically states the purpose of the document, such as to establish a constitution, create a treaty, or set forth a set of rules.

* Background information: The preamble may provide some background information about the document, such as the historical context or the reasons for its creation.

* Principles and values: The preamble may also set forth the principles and values that underlie the document. For example, the preamble to the United States Constitution states that the purpose of the document is to "form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity."

* Signatories: The preamble may list the names of the individuals or organizations who have signed the document.
