Why was Captain Bligh lionized by the English public?

Captain William Bligh was actually vilified by the English public after the mutiny on the Bounty in 1789. After the British Admiralty found him not guilty of the charges of tyranny, cruelty, and oppression by his crew, he served in various naval expeditions, including the Battle of Copenhagen and the Battle of Trafalgar, where he was eventually promoted to rear admiral.
