What is Lennie supposed to do if the boss asks him questions mice of men?

Lennie is supposed to keep his mouth shut and not talk when the boss asks questions in Of Mice and Men. George repeatedly warns him of this; however, Lennie is unable to maintain silence in George's absence and consequently gets in trouble.
