When were pimary schools built?
Primary schools began to be established in the United States in the early 19th century. The first public primary school was established in Boston in 1818, and by the middle of the century, primary schools were widespread throughout the country. In 1867, the National Education Association recommended that all states establish free public primary schools for children ages 5 to 12. By the end of the 19th century, most children in the United States had access to primary education.
