Third Grade Learning Sites

The Internet is a source of information that is helpful in many different ways, including in elementary education. In addition to the textbooks and handouts students receive in class to assist with learning, there are a variety of websites appropriate for educational use. Third-graders can improve in many different subjects by developing skills through educational websites that will teach them while they are playing. Getting a child to study when he doesn't realize he's studying is a good way to improve grades.
  1. ABC ya!

    • ABC ya! is a website with lots of computer games geared toward elementary education. You can select the grade level of your child and then choose from many different games ranging from math to memory and writing to virtual arts and crafts. Simply click on a game and your child can begin playing unlimited games for free.

ABC ya! was started by an elementary school teacher who needed computer software to help him teach his K-8 classes. When he was confronted with the reality of budget restrictions within the public school system, he began putting together a database of useful kids' sites that contained educational games. The result was this website.

    Internet 4 Classrooms

    • Internet 4 Classrooms is a website that started in the year 2000 when two colleagues collaborated to build a website that would assist teachers everywhere and help children and parents access grade-appropriate content no matter where they are. The site is completely free and is available on six continents.

Content on the site is labeled with icons that make the purpose of specific pages or downloads clear. Some content is for teachers only. Other content options include quizzes, entire lesson plans and educational videos. There is information available for all grades kindergarten through college. The 3rd Grade Resources page includes current standards, standardized practice tests and skill-building activities.

    Harcourt School Publishers

    • Harcourt School Publishers is a company founded in 1919 and located in Orlando, Florida, that produces textbooks and other educational materials for schools and home use. Their website, HarcourtSchool.com offers activities for children enrolled in pre-k through 6th grade. Among the divisions of the site is the Grade 3 Activity page where students can click on a variety of programs ranging from an idea generator to help write a paper to a homework helper to a variety of grammar games. The site is free to use and quite large, meaning kids won't get tired of the information.

    Kaboose Funschool

    • The Kaboose Funschool website is a fun mix of brainteasers, games and simple fun for kids of all ages. By visiting the third and fourth-grade links on Kaboose, kids can play games including Addition Attack, Anagram Sleuth and Bon Appetit, a word game.

Funschool is a Kaboose site that is part of the Disney Online Family Portfolio. Other popular sites in this group include Family Fun, Amazing Moms, Baby Zone and Disney Family.
