Counting is one of the first activities learned in any language. Count the number of spoons you are getting to set the table. Have children count money. Count the number of eggs you are putting in a recipe. Count the number of stairs you climb. When working with children have them count while you do household chores. How many socks are we matching? How many plates do we need?
Introduce colors with games. Sit in a circle with one person in the middle who does not have a chair. That person will call out a color in Spanish. Everyone wearing that color has to run to a different chair. The person in the middle tries to get a chair, leaving a new person in the middle. That person now has to call out a color in Spanish and everyone runs again.
Sing familiar tunes to Spanish words. Songs like "The Farmer in the Dell" and "Old McDonald Had a Farm" will allow you to introduce animals in Spanish. Familiar nursery rhymes will be easier to translate and remember.
Give simple commands to the students in Spanish and give points or a prize if the command is followed correctly. This person could also give the next command for another student to follow. Play "Simon Says" in Spanish.
Cut out pictures of people from a magazine and instruct the students to add different pieces of clothing that you call out in Spanish. They will have to find the right piece of clothing to cut out and glue in place.
Watch popular movies in Spanish. The students will recognize the speakers and songs as they translate the words themselves.
