Teachers will either project the sentence and have the students copy them down or distribute paper copies that the students make corrections on. DOL is an excellent activity that students complete while the teacher is taking attendance or during intercom announcements.
Students self-correct their work to identify errors and make changes. Have students use a red pen so that corrections are visible.
Create a handbook that has all the sentences listed. Plan for DOL time during a transition such as coming in from lunch or at the beginning of the day. Project sentences on the overhead screen while the students are entering. Allow most of the students to complete the corrections. Make corrections on the overhead by calling on volunteers. Students are responsible to correct their work in red.
