Portable Classrooms for Schools

Portable classrooms are popular choices for many schools, as they offer minimal site disruptions and flexible financing; they are easy to relocate and cost less than a physical rebuilding program. When space is an issue or the number of classes or students fluctuates each year, portable classrooms can be an option.
  1. Modular

    • Modular classrooms can easily be delivered and installed when temporary or portable classrooms are needed. The modular units are actual classrooms that can easily be combined with other modular units for a block of several classrooms in one area.

    Cost

    • Schools have used portable classrooms for years because of the low initial cost associated with obtaining and installing the classrooms. Portable classrooms require a minimum of installation as they are meant to be moved, though in many schools the portable classrooms become a permanent fixture. The classroom can also hold many different classes, depending on the needs of the school. Portable classrooms can be purchased, leased or leased to own.

    Location

    • The location of the portable classrooms is an important factor. Students should not have to walk a great distance from their usual classes. If a school experiences very cold winter temperatures, the portable classrooms need to be positioned as close as possible to the school. Avoid areas with major sources of air pollution or where water tends to accumulate. Make sure the path to the classroom is safe for everyone.

    Go Green

    • Portable classrooms have gone green, as new designs and manufacturing practices produce sustainable portable classrooms. Each classroom must meet local building codes and regulations to be classified as sustainable. Although sustainable options may add to the initial cost, the money can be recouped in energy savings. Portable classrooms are much more energy-efficient that the ones produced 10 years ago.
