What Are Some Art Activities for the Big Dipper?

Constellations are pictures in the sky depicted by specific stars. The Big Dipper is one of the more popular constellations; it includes seven stars. The constellation forms a ladle or dipper with a handle. When teaching about the stars and constellations, use art projects to help students understand the lesson.
  1. Glow-in-the-Dark Paint

    • Lay a large sheet of black construction paper flat on a desk. Use glow-in-the-dark puffy paint to draw the stars that are part of the Big Dipper on the construction paper. Draw lines to connect the stars using white chalk. Use star stickers to decorate the background as the sky.

    Glittery Constellations

    • Use glue to make dots to represent the stars of the Big Dipper on a sheet of black construction paper. Sprinkle glitter on the dots of glue and remove the excess by shaking the paper over a trash can. Glue pieces of yarn to connect the stars and form the Big Dipper. Allow students to use the glitter, glue and yarn to create their own constellation. Have them name the constellation.
