Instructions for a Flat Fish Phonics Set

Carson-Dellosa's Flat Fish Phonics set provides children with an interactive toy that teaches basic phonics lessons, including letter recognition, sound recognition and spelling. The set comes with 54 fish-shaped foam pieces with letters written on one side. Upper- and lowercase letters are available along with six different colors. The ability to move and rearrange the fish allows children to explore phonics lessons and actively participate in an important foundational educational lesson.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect the fish with the locking mechanism located on the tail and mouth. The locking mechanism snaps in place, just like a puzzle piece. Create words by locking the fish in place. Since there are only 54 fish with letters (27 uppercase and 27 lowercase letters), spell simple words with non-repeating letters, such as "cat" and "dog."

    • 2

String fish together with a strand of string looped through each fish's eye hole. The small opening in the eye is specifically made for string. Tie a series of fish together to spell words or group together specific letters together to hang as a display. For example, string together the letters A, E, I, O and U for a vowel display. String together the remaining letters for a consonant display. Then string upper- and lowercase letters together as a display to teach children the characteristics of each form.

    • 3

Wash dirty fish pieces with water and a dry towel. The fish are made of non-toxic, washable foam. Water will not cause any damage to the pieces.
