Teach children to recognize and write letters of the alphabet by incorporating Halloween images into the lesson. Create and print large letters of the alphabet outlined in black with pieces of Halloween clip art inside the letters. Leave blank space under the letters so students can practice writing the letters themselves. Give students time to color the letters and then instruct them to practice writing. When completed, display the letters around the room.
Create a Halloween-themed crossword puzzle for students. Use one of the crossword puzzle creators available online or create a puzzle from your own imaginings. Examples of Halloween-themed clues include, "I spin webs," "I fly on a broom," and "Ring this and say 'Trick or Treat!'"
Print and cut out one ghost image per student. Give each student time to color and decorate his ghost. Collect the ghost images and put a magnet on the back of each ghost. Using a magnetic board, teach addition and subtraction with the ghosts by adding and removing the ghosts from the board. If a magnetic board is unavailable, tape on a regular chalk board will work just as well.
Give students a lined piece of paper with a Halloween story started at the top of the page.
