There are quite a few interactive whiteboard lessons that teach money recognition and values. Learning how to identify coins and bills is one of the first steps in learning about money. These lessons are typically geared toward kindergarten and first grade students. Some concentrate only on coin or bill values and how much each is worth. Others expand the lesson to include learning about the symbols and people depicted on the money.
Other lessons move beyond the concept of values for single coins or bills and into the values of combinations of coins and bills. Students are asked to make change or find as many different combinations of coins and/or bills that equal the same value. Typically, these lessons are geared toward students in first grade through third grade.
One way of learning about money is through word problems involving money. Several lessons use word problems and ask students to drag the correct coins and bills across the screen to put into a box. Others ask students to figure out how much money they need to buy a set of items.
There are other lessons geared toward middle school and high school students that ask the students to create budgets and figure out ways to pay for living expenses. One is called Real Life Math and is laid out as an onscreen board game. Students move their playing pieces across the screen while collecting wages and paying bills.
