Animal Fact Sheets for Kids

Helping kids to learn about the natural and the animal world is important for their understanding of that world. Animal fact sheets for kids give a brief look at each animal's basic information. These sheets help students study for science and biology tests. Each sheet focuses on a different animal, but provides the same information about each.
  1. Themed Sheets

    • Millions of animal species exist in the world, making it hard to select the creatures for your animal fact sheets. Try focusing on animals native to the region where you live or focus on animals living in areas your class is studying at the moment. For instance, if the geography lessons are focusing on Africa this week, make up animal fact sheets on well-known or unique animals found in Africa for the biology lessons too. Themed animal fact sheets help kids learn by tying in with another related lesson or activity.

    Pre-made or Make-Your-Own?

    • You can print out pre-existing animal fact sheets online. Just look for reputable sites associated with these sheets. Also, double check all of the information against another resource to ensure that it's accurate.

Making your own animal fact sheets is another option. Use books, online sources and even television documentaries for your information. This can be a great activity for parents and teachers to complete with kids. In looking up the information for the fact sheets kids learn more about these animals.

    What to Include?

    • Animal fact sheets contain the basic information on each animal. Fact sheets include height and weight, physical characteristics of the species, lifespan, diet, native habitat, and mating behavior. Include whatever information on the animal is relevant to the situation or activity. A picture of the animal in the fact sheet also helps kids to see what the creature looks like in real life. Some fact sheets also include puzzles or games to test the child's knowledge of the animal.

    Additional Information

    • Provide the kids with further learning opportunities by including resource information in each of the animal fact sheets. Kids are technologically inclined, so get them the names of a few websites to visit and explore. List bibliographical information on two to three books about the animals. This way kids have good resources to check in case they want to learn more about a particular animal. Create a combined learning experience by handing out the fact sheets after watching a related television program on these animals.
