Provide in-class support. If you are a parent and you believe your child might have difficulties with fifth-grade spelling, speak to your child's teacher. If you are a teacher, identify the students who have difficulties in spelling, so you might provide them with extra support. Pay close attention to those students as they work, and offer additional instruction.
Contact your child's school to inquire about tutoring, if your child's teacher doesn't bring this up as an option. Your child's school should have tutoring options available for each subject. Sign up your child for tutoring groups or individual tutoring, both of which can help with your child's spelling ability.
Get your child involved in a study group or another group with which they can practice spelling. You can arrange this through your child's teacher or through your child's school.
Contact a learning center in your area, if your town or city has one. A learning center is an independent organization, on which children and parents can rely to provide them with tutoring and test-taking help. You can pay a fee to the organization, which will set up your child with tutoring at his own pace, to help improve his fifth-grade math scores.
