Things to Do During the Last Two Weeks of School

Spring is finally here and the end of the school year is right around the corner. As the weather gets warmer, it becomes increasingly difficult to hold your students' attention. Some unfortunate consequences of warm weather are restless students and a constant longing to want to go outside when learning should still continue. Luckily there are still fun activities that you can do during the last two weeks of school to engage and challenge your students.
  1. ABC Books

    • This is a class project that will involve the efforts of each student. ABC books challenge students to learn about a specific topic that they are interested in and want to understand more about. Allow each student in your class to choose a different topic to explore and research. However, each topic must start with a different letter in the alphabet in order to combine all the topics together to create the class's ABC book. If you do not have 26 students in your class, allow students to choose more than one topic to research.

    Egg Drop

    • A fun and exciting activity to do during the last two weeks of school is the Egg Drop. This activity will engage your students' intellectual curiosity and engineering competency for designing egg containers to withstand the impact of being dropped. Establish a designated height to be used for the egg dropping height, and after each student or group of students have constructed their egg containers, allow each to be dropped. This test of how well your students can create an egg container will not only be an enjoyable but educational experience for them.

    Classroom Scavenger Hunt

    • Plan a scavenger hunt in your classroom for students to participate in during the last few days of school. Pose your scavenger-hunt questions in such a way so that they are not obvious to your students, such as in a riddle format. You can create questions that have to deal with book characters, questions that require the use of your class computers or even questions that test the memory of your students by having them recall where certain events occurred in the classroom over the course of the school year.

    T-Shirt Autographs

    • During the last or second to last day of school, a great way to ease students into summer mode is with an artistic activity such as making T-shirts. Have each student come class with a plain white T-shirt. Then allow the children to press their hands in paint to color imprint onto other students' shirts. Students can then sign each other's shirts by putting their names under their hand prints. This project is a memorable way to wrap up the school year.
