Provide students with blue construction paper. Using red acrylic craft paint, have each student paint the side of his hand, from the top of his pinkie finger to the base of his hand. Ask students to curve their hands and press the painted sides onto the construction paper. This forms the first half of the rainbow. Have students repeat the step with their opposite hands to form the other half of the rainbow. Ask students to wash their hands and use orange paint to make the next color in the rainbow. Continue the process using yellow, green, blue and purple paint. Students can use black and yellow construction paper to make pots of gold to glue near the bottom of their rainbows.
Have each student cut out an oval from green construction paper. This is the man's body. Ask each student to cut out six shamrocks. Glue three shamrocks to each side of the oval to create arms. Have each student cut out 10 shamrocks and use five for each leg. Each student makes one slightly larger shamrock and glues it to the top of the oval to create the man's head. Have students use black markers to make faces.
Ask students to cut out shamrocks from green card stock. Have them use paintbrushes to spread white glue onto their shamrocks. Students completely cover their shamrocks with uncooked pasta to give them an interesting texture. Acini de pepe or any small noodle works well. Have students shake off any excess pasta once the glue is dry. They should also remove any pasta hanging over the edges. Have students paint the pasta using paintbrushes and green paint. When the shamrocks are dry, glue pin backings or magnets to the backs so they can be worn as brooches.
Provide students with light green craft foam. Ask them to cut out tie shapes from the foam. The ties should be large enough for them to wear. Have students cut out shamrocks of various sizes from dark green and white craft foam. Use a glue gun or foam glue to attach the shamrocks to the ties. Ask students to cut out rectangles to make the ties' knots. Wrap a rectangle vertically around the top of each tie and secure it with glue. When the glue is dry, thread a piece of green yarn through each knot so students can wear their ties around their necks.
