Creative Elementary School Fundraising Ideas

Even before budget cuts hit the school system, schools have been strapped for cash. Selling door-to-door items has always worked, but parents and teachers alike dread it. This year, do something different. Find creative ways to earn cash for your school or classroom.
  1. Quarter Fair

    • Create a carnival with games that are simple and fun. Duck ponds, dart games, put-putt golf, basketball and ring toss are examples of games the children can play. Use penny candy and gum for prizes to keep the costs down. Schools can also ask for donations from stores and restaurants for more challenging activities. Charge a quarter for every activity. Because the activities are so inexpensive, everyone will be able to come out and have fun. It is amazing how quickly quarters add up to dollars.

    Online Stores

    • Many companies offer fundraising programs that allow parents, friends and relatives to go online and shop for a variety of items. Rather than the typical school fundraising items, such as candles, candy or magazines, many stores offer items people already consume. There is absolutely no cost to the school which receives a percentage of the sales. Send out reminders regularly to keep the program in the minds of potential customers.

    Use the Computer

    • Sign up for a search engine on the computer that pays you to use it. The site will pay the school pennies per search but don't be discouraged. If the entire school and the families involved use the search engine, by the end of the year, those pennies will add up to dollars. The individual in charge of fundraising lists the school as a qualified charity at a reputable site. It is important to notify potential users of the selected site so the school receives the funds.

    Online Auction

    • Instead of collecting typical garage sale donations, collect items that are easy to ship, such as books, knickknacks, purses and collectibles. Take a clear picture of each item and write up a description. Choose a good starting price for each item. Locate a box the item will fit in, then label the box and place the item inside. List the items on an online auction site. Mention that the auction is being held to raise money for your school. As each item sells, address the box, put in the packing slip and take it to the post office.
