Create a kid-friendly pumpkin recipe book. Record your favorite pumpkin-based recipes and rewrite them on a plain sheet of paper or type them on the computer and print them out. Invite friends and family members to contribute to your cookbook. Divide the recipe book into sections such as desserts or entrees. Ask your child to create a cover for the book using his own artwork. Take the collected recipes and cover to a printer and have them bound to create a professional-looking cookbook.
Host a pumpkin seed baking contest with your friends and family. Purchase a number of pumpkins at the store and remove the seeds. You may need to help your child use a knife to do this. Develop your own pumpkin seed recipe and award prizes or certificates for the best pumpkin seeds. You might choose to have different categories such as the most sweet, savory, or spicy seed. Be creative with your categories and enjoy the creations.
Purchase three to four small pumpkins at your grocery store or a local pumpkin patch. Give your child washable paints and ask her to decorate each pumpkin to look like a member of your family. Provide her with fake hair, small doll glasses and other craft items to embellish her pumpkins. Set these out on your table during the fall season and invite family members over to enjoy their pumpkin look-a-like.
Host a pumpkin rolling contest in your backyard. Ask each guest to bring a variety of pumpkins, varying the type and size of each. Spray paint a starting line in your grass (this will wash away with the next rain) and ask each guest to roll his pumpkin as far as he is able. Allow a guest to try this with each of the pumpkins he brought to the contest and award a pumpkin pie to the winner.
