Appropriate Classroom Rules

School is one of the most important parts of a child's formative years. It provides the opportunity for the children to grow and gain the skills they need to function properly in life. A lot of responsibility falls on the teacher to convey lessons properly, and to teach children the difference between right and wrong. Having a great set of classroom rules is a fantastic way to teach kids discipline.
  1. Peer Relations Rules

    • It is crucial for children to learn how respect and treat their fellow peers and classmates. Certain rules need to be put into place, such as not interfering with others trying to learn, and respecting other people's property. Being distracting could be very frustrating to other students and creates a tense work environment.

    Student-Teacher Interaction Rules

    • A classroom can not function properly without respect from the students to the teacher. A set of rules regarding how to show this respect is necessary for a productive classroom environment. The children must follow instructions the first time they are told, and raise their hands to ask a question or make a comment. The children must be extremely polite and courteous, making a distinction between being polite to a friend and being polite and respectful to an elder and a teacher.

    Work Efficiency

    • Rules must be set to create a productive work environment. Kids sometimes have a hard time focusing, and need to be given a little push to do the schoolwork. A number of rules could be set in place such as focusing on the task at hand and making sure all their work is done on time. It is also important in teaching responsibility that all the children have to make sure they have the supplies they need, when they need it.

    Hallway Rules

    • Nobody likes a rowdy, noisy class in the hallway. Children must have rules to teach them what is an appropriate way to act out of the classroom. The children must use their inside voices, whispering so as not to disturb a working class and other people in the hallway. The children must walk, not run, and make sure to keep their hands and feet to themselves. If everyone follows these rules properly, hallway walking becomes an easy, pleasant experience.
