Fourth-Grade Math Games

Fourth-graders enjoy math games that help them analyze, problem-solve, measure time or duplicate a pattern. Online interactive games allow fourth-graders to challenge their skills on a virtual level. These games can feature challenging puzzles or brain teasers where students can practice probability skills or explore area and perimeter. Online games enhance hand-eye coordination and memory skills in entertaining ways.
  1. Area and Perimeter

    • "Design a Party" is found at Math Playground Online. This game places the students in charge of party planning. Students must coordinate room section squares with the correct square units of area measurements given.

      Shodor Online features "Perimeter Explorer," an online interactive game in which students can find the perimeter of the colored shape's square units. Students can check their answers below the grid.

    Measuring Time

    • Continuing their study of time, fourth-graders can practice learning how to measure time in decades, hours, minutes and seconds. Fourth-graders learn how to use calendars and elapsed time. By moving hands on two types of virtual clocks, fourth-graders can practice measuring time intervals for free at the National Library of Virtual Manipulatives Online.     Probability

    • "Fish Tank" is a free online interactive game where fourth-graders can practice probability skills. The game is found at BBC Education Online. Pythagoras takes a dive in his aquarium filled with red and yellow fish. Students can choose their skill level and work out his probability of catching a red fish.

      Tangrams are ancient Chinese geometric puzzles involving seven pieces. Each movable piece has three or four sides. Tangram puzzles are often first introduced in the third grade and continued in the fourth. Stick or Switch is an online probability Tangram puzzle. Found at National Library of Virtual Manipulatives Online, this free challenging and addicting game can help fourth-graders to stretch their probability strategy skills. The object of the game is to cover the shape with existing Tangram pieces by sliding or flipping them without overlapping them.

    Patterns

This challenging game for students involves square patterns that fourth-graders can slide into place, continuing the pattern sequence to allow the next flower to grow.       The National Library of Virtual Manipulatives Online features the game, "Color Patterns." Fourth-grade students can enjoy practicing hand-eye coordination skills with this brain teaser.
