A weekly calendar includes all the important events and activities that take place during an average week in your students' lives. Give each child a sheet of construction paper, and write the days of the week along the left side of the paper. Divide the rest of the paper into seven sections, with each section corresponding to a different day. Ask the kids to create a list of important activities that take place during the week, and have them write those days on the calendar. For example, if your students have art class three days a week, then add the classes to the calendar.
Create a large calendar from a piece of white poster board. Write the month at the top of the poster board, and divide the other areas into small boxes that indicate the days of the month. Assign each child a specific day, and ask her to create a small picture or design for that day, which includes the date. Tape or glue the designs onto the boxes, and hang the calendar on a wall in the classroom.
Draw 25 small boxes on pieces of green construction paper, and cut along the bottom edge and two sides, leaving the top attached, creating small tabs. Pass the sheets of paper out in the classroom, and ask the children to create an Advent calendar for the holidays. Glue a second piece of paper to the green construction paper, applying glue to the top, bottom and sides of the paper. Ask the students to lift the paper tabs and draw their own images underneath. Write the days of the month on the top of each tab.
Let your students create a yearly calendar for use at home. Fold the paper in half, creating two equally-sized sides. Ask the students to write the month on one side with an image relating to the month. Show the kids how to draw boxes on the other side, making the days of the month. Repeat the process with different sheets of construction paper, making one for each month. Poke holes through the top of the papers and run string through, tying the calendar sheets together.
