Why was school named school?

The word "school" comes from the Greek word "skhole," which means "leisure" or "free time." In ancient Greece, schools were places where people went to learn and discuss ideas, and they were not associated with formal education as we know it today. The term "school" was eventually adopted in English to refer to places of learning, and its meaning has evolved over time to encompass the various educational institutions we have today.
