Acquaint students with all the aspects of the text book. You will want the students to be familiar with all the tools available such as the glossary, listings of formulas, chapter summaries, topical reviews and graphing calculator examples.
Make use of chapter vocabulary lists. Have students write out vocabulary definitions or make flash cards. Use the information for a class game or quiz.
Check each student on the required skills needed to successfully complete the chapter, which will most likely be presented as examples or short drills at the beginning of each chapter, looking for any weak areas that need to be taught.
Use the textbook publisher's supplementary resources for teachers, such as extra practice with examples. You will also want the students to use the publisher's on-line student resources.
Introduce new topics with the use of DVDs, slide shows, or PowerPoint presentations that summarize the topic and also give a background at the same time.
