What to Use After Easy Grammar

Your kids are growing up, and now you're worried that you'll never find a suitable grammar program to use after your sixth-grader completes the last level of Easy Grammar. There is no need to despair, because Easy Grammar has another curriculum level geared specifically for the seventh grade and up.
  1. Easy Grammar Plus Overview

    • Easy Grammar Plus, written by Wanda C. Phillips, is a continuation of the Easy Grammar System that you used for elementary school. This grammar curriculum comes in two parts and consists of the student workbook and the parent guide. As of September 2009, the most recent edition was printed in 2007. The student workbook contains 326 pages of worksheets that correspond to the lessons presented in the parent guide. All parts of speech are covered. In addition, the author includes types of sentences, punctuation and capitalization practice. The parent guide is almost 700 pages and contains short and simple lessons as well as answers to the student worksheets and another identical blank worksheet, just in case your student needs more practice. One of the great things about Easy Grammar Plus is that it does not have to be completed in one year. You can easily adapt this curriculum over several years, as there are plenty of worksheets to keep your teen busy. In fact, it would be very stressful for you and your student to try to complete the whole program in one school year.

Getting Started with Easy Grammar Plus

    • Before investing $40 or more in this program, ask yourself honestly if your child enjoyed using the easy Grammar System enough to continue on through high school. If your answer is yes, then it is time to make the purchase. You can often find this curriculum used on eBay. This will save you money and will provide you with the same book sold in the Easy Grammar Systems store. When searching through eBay listings, you may come across the parent guide without the student workbook. If you do not mind making copies of the identical blank worksheets contained in the parent guide, you can simply omit the student workbook altogether. If that seems too time-consuming, go ahead and purchase both books.

Using the Easy Grammar Plus System

    • Many homeschool parents find that two days a week for grammar is plenty. What's more, by this time in your student's schooling, he or she is familiar with all the sections contained in the curriculum and simply needs more-difficult examples to practice. The author suggests starting with prepositions, which is the first section, and then skipping around to suit the other language-arts curricula you may be using. This is an ideal strategy for parents and teens who find too much repetition boring, so don't be afraid to switch it up a bit. Even if you are new to the Easy Grammar Systems, you will find that this curriculum is easily incorporated into your homeschooling schedule.
