How to Teach Wordly Wise

Wordly Wise is a curriculum that is designed to broaden the vocabulary of elementary through high school-aged students. Although developed for homeschooled students, Wordly Wise can also be used as a supplement workbook for children who attend public or private schools to help support their learning. When you use Wordly Wise, there are particular methods that you can employ to make teaching the material more effective for the child who is studying it.

Instructions

    • 1

Sit with your child and read each new vocabulary word in the Wordly Wise unit, along with its respective definition. This will complete the first day's work.

    • 2

Have your child complete the first exercise for the unit, which involves arranging the new vocabulary words into sentences. This will complete the second day's work.

    • 3

Read the story for the unit to your child, which incorporates the vocabulary words into the story. This completes the third day's work.

    • 4

Have your child answer the review questions about the story you previously read. This completes the fourth day's work.

    • 5

Have your child complete the last exercise, which is a crossword puzzle using the vocabulary words. This will complete the fifth and final section of the Wordly Wise unit.

    • 6

Continue teaching all of the units in the workbook in the same manner, one unit per week.
