You can learn basic conversational Thai for an upcoming vacation or to increase your understanding of Thai culture. Thai is a tonal member of the Sino-Tibetan family of languages, believed to have been developed in India. Spoken by more than 50 million people, Thai has 44 consonants and 32 vowels; it consists of five different tones including high, middle, low, falling and rising tones. Learning to speak conversational Thai properly requires hearing the sounds as pronounced by a native Thai speaker.

Instructions

Listen to Thai radio programs or television shows to hear more use of the tones and sounds and mimic what you hear for further practice.
