Homeschool Art Programs for 7th Grade

When choosing a curriculum for your home-schooled 7th-grader, you should consider a good art program. Most home school art programs do not require special materials or previous experience with art. Seventh-grade art students are ready to learn about color, composition and creating portraits or natural scenes.
  1. Lamb's Book of Art Series

    • The "Lamb's Book of Art" series introduces children to the basics of art. Created by Bobby Stebbings, the first two volumes are designed for children between the ages of 8 and 13. The second volume is a companion text, not a sequel, so either book may be started first. According to the website Home School Advisor, the series teaches students drawing, color, portraiture, nature scenes, autonomy and cartooning. The lessons include step-by-step instructions and questions that test conceptual comprehension.

    Elements of Art and Composition

    • "The Elements of Art and Composition Junior High" books introduce students to art from around the world, Home School Advisor says. Each concept presented in the book is illustrated by reproductions of works by artistic masters. This series allows students to explore art through their own interpretations. The curriculum challenges students to apply artistic techniques and thinking to their drawings.

    Color and Composition

    • The "Color and Composition" book is a sequel to "The Elements of Art and Composition." Also focused on art from around the world, "Color and Composition" builds on the elements learned in the previous book. Students focus on the color and composition of artistic pieces reproduced in the book. Techniques taught in the book include balancing color, pairing colors, using color and using placement.

    With Art in Mind

    • Written by Patricia Parker Grobner, "With Art in Mind" teaches students the basics of art in simple and easy-to-follow lessons. According to Home School Advisor, the book has a color key that designates whether the lesson is more appropriate for older children in junior high or younger ones in upper elementary school grades. Each lesson includes an example and is ideal for parents who have no formal training in art.
