Homeschool parents should be aware of a tax credit available exclusively to Illinois residents. The Illinois Department of Revenue issued a tax credit for expenses related to public, private and homeschooling. According to Publication 119 issued by the Illinois Department of Revenue, this credit is available for all educational expenses exceeding $250.00 per calendar year. This credit is separate from the Federal Tax Credit available for teachers employed by public and private schools.
Parents should keep receipts for educational expenses to qualify for this credit. Books, courses, craft materials, and other items are included in the tax credit. Forms are available online at the Illinois Department of Revenue.

The Illinois Christian Home Educators support group offers a homeschool conference in June of each year. In addition, they offer information about other homeschool groups in Illinois and promote events that support Christian homeschooling. The website has a calendar of events. ICHE offers a way for Christian Illinois homeschoolers to connect with one another through planned activities and conferences.

This website offers links to many homeschool groups located in Illinois as well as links to national publications and homeschool support groups. Started by a homeschool family it is an ongoing project to keep Illinois homeschoolers informed and educated about homeschool choices.
