Draw a series of simple objects on index cards. For example, you may draw an apple, a car, an airplane, a bus, a tree, or a house.
Add color to your drawings, using your colorful markers.
Place each index card in front of your toddler. Say out loud what's on the index card as you point to the picture. Repeat this step several times, encouraging your toddler to repeat after you. If you can, make it fun.
Switch your television set to a kids' learning channel such as PBS Kids. These educational channels do a good job of helping with reading and pronunciation of words.
Buy a learning CD-ROM to help with pronunciation of words. There are tons of them available for sale online. Make sure the CD-ROM is age-appropriate. If you buy one that your child is too young to grasp, it will lead only to frustration.
Play the learning CD-ROM every day so that your child can become more familiar with words. With time and patience, your child's vocabulary will grow, thanks to the help you have provided at home.
