Enrich your writing knowledge, skills and techniques by reading different books on writing, as well as books written by other efficient writers. Efficient writers are most often also avid readers. Through reading you can develop your vocabulary, learn new techniques in writing, and gain insights which you can use to improve your work.
Join writing workshops, seminars or classes to further enhance your techniques. You will not just gain knowledge regarding writing methodologies that you might not have learned before, but you can also socialize and be connected with your fellow writers as well.
Make room for adjustments. Edit and proofread your work carefully to make your article, book or story solid. First drafts are rarely the final draft.
Ask for the help from friends or colleagues. Do not hesitate to seek advice. Consider asking for feedback or the opinion of other people as their perspective may help you see your flaw and give you a chance to improve your writing techniques. For instance, when other people read your work, they may find that sections you thought where clear for the reader are not so clear.
Make use of the dictionary, thesaurus, AP Stylebook and Chicago Manual of Style, as these are the basic writing tools used by writers in general. These tools will help you with your spelling, punctuation and your overall writing techniques.
Write every day, even if you don’t feel like doing so. This is the only way to keep in touch with the “writer” in you.
