Recall the process associated with your confirmation ceremony. Based on your own ceremony, you can remember its importance and the preparation that was involved. Candidates must attend weekly classes about the importance of prayer, faith and being an active member of the church.
The sponsors also have to attend some meetings about setting a good example for the candidate. During the ceremony in Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox churches, the sponsor stands at the candidate's side during the anointing with oil. You should pray that the candidate learns the values of confirmation and is able to become active in the church, as well as providing an example for others.
Outline information that you want to describe within your sponsorship essay. You can write headings that are associated with the introduction to the ceremony, the sponsorship qualifications and the goals of the sponsor. For example, under the introduction to the ceremony heading, you can write notes about how the confirmation ceremony continues the commitment made at baptism. Under the sponsorship qualification heading, make notes about how you will help your candidate. Under the goals heading, write about how you plan to prepare the candidate for receiving confirmation.
Write the essay about sponsoring someone for confirmation. You should write the essay in the first person and state your opinions. As you describe the confirmation ceremony, you can put in some of your own memories of the ceremony. As you explain how you are qualified to be a sponsor, write about why the candidate chose you and how that made you feel. At the end of the essay, write about ways you have helped the candidate, ways you hope to help the candidate in the future and what you want the candidate to achieve as a result of being confirmed.
Proofread the confirmation essay aloud in order to notice any mistakes. After you fix any mistakes, print out the essay.
