Write a short piece about the event in your class newsletter if you regularly distribute one either in paper format, via email or on your class homepage. Put the event on the newsletter's front page where it will immediately be noticed. Send your newsletter out via email and hard copy. Parents without ready access to the Internet or those who do better with a paper reminder will appreciate having both forms available to them.
Use clean lines, easy-to-read font and a large space on the newsletter's front page to showcase the event. If you write a traditional letter, leave plenty of white space on the page. Write in a formal tone, but one that expresses optimism and cheerfulness.
Keep your letter short and to the point. It should be less than a page in length. Use at least size 12 text so it is easy for parents to read and find the most important information. For example, you might write, "Welcome back to school! Our new fifth grade class will be hosting an open house for parents on Wednesday, September 15, from 7 to 8 p.m. in the school gym where we will exhibit some of our school work done so far. We look forward to seeing you there!"
Set off important information in bold, italics or with bullet points. For example, the name of the event, what to bring, the date, time and place are pieces of information the parents will want quick access to.
