Begin your introduction with a basic overview or a background history of the topic. Include only facts that are the most relevant. Avoid making this section too detailed so as not to shift the focus of the paper.
Detail the reasoning behind your argument or why it is important. Describe whether you are adding onto previous research, and share how the information in your paper will enhance the previous findings or conclusions you have based your research on.
Inform the reader of any shortcomings or limitations in your research. For instance, if you have conducted a survey, point out that it was performed on a local college campus with a similar socio-economic group.
Summarize your thesis, or main argument, and segue into the body of the research paper.
