If you have recently moved to Miami or if you are planning on living in Miami temporarily, there are many options for learning and improving your English. Due to its large number of foreign immigrants, there is a high demand for learning English in Miami, and many English-language schools and courses are available all year.

There are many educational institutions in Miami including Miami Dade College, University of Miami, Florida International University and several more. Each of these colleges has an ESL, or English as a Second Language, department designed to help students master English. To enroll in a course, contact the Languages Department directly. You will need to take a placement test to identify your current level of English proficiency. Once you receive your test results, enroll in the appropriate beginning, intermediate or advanced class. Once you become comfortable in English, you will have many opportunities to continue your college education in Miami.

      Sign up for a language exchange program. Even though you may only speak a limited amount of English, your native tongue is a valuable asset to have. For instance, if you speak Spanish, you can easily find a local English-speaking resident who wants to learn your language. You can set up a time to meet at a coffee shop or another public place and exchange language lessons. You will strengthen your English-language skills by speaking one-on-one with a native English-speaker.

      Make friends with native English-speakers. One of the fastest and most effective ways to learn English is to practice in a social setting. Try and make friends at your work, school or any other place where you have to chance to interact with English-speakers.       Watch television and listen to the radio in English. Television and radio are excellent resources that will boost your English-language speaking abilities. You will hear English spoken in context and at a normal speed. The more English language television you watch, the more comfortable you will become in understanding and catching on to new phrases.
