The Public Safety Training Association, based in San Diego, California, provides training for the Guard Card required by the State of California for all security guards. The Association provides mandated training courses, which include arrest powers, fingerprinting, firearms training with range qualification, baton training and tear-gas training.
New York State requires all security guards be registered and take part in mandatory training courses. At Monroe Community College, the first course offered is an 8-hour pre-assignment training course, followed by 16 hours of on-the-job training that must be taken within 60 days of employment. Monroe also offers an 8-hour annual review course that is mandated by the state for license renewal.
The Arizona Security Training School in Scottsdale, Arizona, provides a number of courses and certifications for security personnel. The courses range from basic security officer training and certification to classes in home protection. The school also provides first-responder training and certification for individuals and supervisory personnel in either private companies or public agencies.
NJ Guard Training provides complete armed-security-guard training and certification. Courses include use of force, handcuffing, pepper spray, baton and basic pistol. NJ Guard Training also includes training on basic firearm safety using the NRA program of participant involvement. Advanced courses are also offered, including criminal and civil liability, ethics and professional conduct, as well as crime prevention and asset protection.
