With steam cleaning, you first vacuum the carpet with an ordinary vacuum cleaner to remove solid dirt particles. Ensure you remove any particles that did not get removed by the vacuum cleaner by spraying the carpet with a jet of hot water and detergent. Then let the detergent react with the stains for 5 to 10 minutes and extract the hot water using a powerful vacuum leading to a tank. Finally, leave the carpet to dry. With the dynamism of technology, there are advances in extraction vacuums enabling the power of water extraction to increase and shortening the time it takes the carpet to dry.
The bonnet method is also called the dry cleaning method, even though water is used. You use an oscillating or rotating brush to clean wet or damp parts of the carpet or pad. You can sprinkle water on the carpet or pad and squeeze the pad gently by holding it on both hands and pressing it to rid of excess water. Use a rotating brush to then clean the carpet or pad. However, this method is not fully efficient because it damages the fibers of the carpet if there is a cut surface where water can get underneath the carpet or pad.
In the carpet absorbent method, you spray a small amount of water directly onto the surface of the carpet with an absorbent mixture of a detergent and an organic solvent. You then use a vacuum cleaner to absorb the mixture containing the soil particles. This method is advantageous because little time is required for drying since you use only a small amount of water.
The shampoo method has two main ways it can be accomplished: the wet shampoo method and the aerosol foam shampoo method. In the wet shampoo method, you use neutral shampoo on woolen carpets. Warning -- using shampoos that smell like ammonia can lead to the carpet wool retaining the foul smell. In the aerosol foam shampoo method, you sparingly spray the foam onto the sponge and scrub it on the carpet using a moistened brush. Remove the dirt using the vacuum after the carpet dries.
