Tools Used in Farming

Different farmers have different tools to boost their farm production. The choice of tool a farmer uses is based on type of farming activity. For example, a livestock farmer will use different tools from a crop farmer. Farming tools reduce the work load of the farmer and increase the farm's productivity.
  1. Fish Farming Tools

    • Fish need to have an environment resembling their natural habitat. Fish farms are set up in areas with indirect access to a large water body such as a sea or ocean. Making this environment requires tools specifically for fish farming such as a fish feeder, fish grader and aeration systems. A fish feeder feeds fish at selected intervals by placing food and setting intervals of releasing food to the fish. Fish graders are sieves of different sizes restricting the movement of fish lager than the size of a sieve to pass through from one partition to the other. An aeration system is used to constantly supply oxygen in overcrowded fish ponds.

    Dairy Farming Tools

    • A wide array of cattle farming tools is required for handling and maintaining the livestock. For dairy farming, a milking machine reproduces the suction of a calf increasing its milk productivity. Autoscrapers are used to wash away cattle waste along tracks and to clear the way to prevent clogging. An ear notch is used for ownership identification.

    Garden Tools

    • Garden tools are tools for working on the land and fall into several categories: cultivators, harvesting or medical tools. Cultivators include tools such as hoes and mechanized tractors and are used to plow land. Harvesting tools include tools such as the sickle, used to cut grasses such as wheat and corn, or the combined harvester for large scale harvesting of grains. Farm medical tools include a sprayer, which is used to administer medicine to plants on small scale; airplanes are used for large scale administration.

    Bee Keeping Tools

    • Bee keeping requires the use of several specific tools to avoid getting stung by bees. Hive tools are meant for removing bee products from the walls of hives for instance removing frames from the hive. Hive scrapers remove wax or brace combs (a type of bee comb from which honey and wax are withdrawn) from the bee hive. A smoker drives away bees from their hive during harvesting of honey and wax.
