Directions to Do a Handspring

The handspring is a gymnastic move in which the performer jumps from a flat stand, lands on her hands and then pushes over to land back on her feet. Doing this maneuver well can be a springboard to other parts of a gymnastic routine. The basic movements are not very difficult, but it requires a lot of practice to perfect it. Failure to do it properly can result in serious injuries.

Instructions

Stand up straight, with eyes forward. Straighten your arms as high above your head as possible.

    • 2

Swing your arms down and back up, while extending your legs. Push off the flat part of your feet.

    • 3

Push your hips in as you jump, while keeping elbows and knees fully straightened. Then land on your hands and allow the rest of your body to continue its motion. Kick your legs over and push off with your shoulders and forearms. Land on your feet.
