How to Learn English in Boulder, Colorado

Nonprofit organizations, a library, an accredited school and a college are some places to learn English in Boulder. These options are geared toward adult learners from all walks of life, and they offer different classes and tutoring options to help you become a better English speaker.

      Enroll in an English course at Intercambio de Comunidades, a nonprofit organization in Boulder that provides in-home, volunteer English tutors as well as group classes. As of April, 2011, classes are available in Boulder on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Registration costs $20, and books are $15. Scholarships are available, and to continue after your first 9-week term costs $10 for registration and $10 for books.

      Register for an English course at the University of Colorado at Boulder. It offers college credit and non-college credit courses. Courses are generally geared toward helping students develop English skills at a high level, though it offers some basic English classes as well. It also has accent reduction, tutoring and supplemental materials to help you practice English on your own.

      Take an English course through the Boulder Public Library. The library offers conversational English courses. As of April 2011, you can contact the library at 303-441-4941.

      Enroll in an English course at the Doorways English School if you are woman. This school is taught at a church in Boulder, and it offers literacy through advanced level English courses, and provides child care during classes. (See Reference 4.)

      Join a class at the YES School (Your English School) in Boulder, where the emphasis is on learning conversational English. The school offers child care during classes. It is an accredited school at which you can earn 3 college hours of credit for completing one semester-long course. As of April 2011, classes are from 9:15 to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Tuition for the semester costs $100, and child care is $150 per child per semester. Some financial aid may be available to help pay for these costs.
